Many thanks to Shaun Brady, who did a great job capturing the spirit of Lucky Old Souls in this Philadelphia Daily News feature, published July 21, 2010.
Dear friends, supporters, acquaintances, and others,
As many of you know, for some time now I’ve been working on opening a restaurant and live music club in South Philly called Lucky Old Souls--a place that hearkens back to a time when live music could be heard pouring out of the doors of neighborhood bars throughout the city.
My proposed location is a 2-story building at 1713 McKean St. The building has been vacant for over 25 years and needs so much work that it doesn’t make sense to start any of the renovations until I’m sure that I’ll be able to operate my proposed business. Getting this business off the ground has been and will continue to be a long, complicated process. Along the way, many of you have expressed your enthusiastic support. That support has helped sustain me and given me the drive to persevere.
Many of you have also asked if there was anything you could do to help. The time has finally come when there is something you can do. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has scheduled a hearing on the Lucky Old Souls liquor license application for Wednesday, August 4, at 12:30 P.M., at 8th & Market St. Anyone who wants to is welcome to attend the hearing to show their support. The more people who show up to express their support, the more likely it is that the liquor license application will be approved. The presence of those of you who live in South Philly, especially in the area of 17th & McKean, would be especially helpful, but, as I said, all are welcome and encouraged to attend. I’ve been waiting for this hearing to be scheduled for over 9 months. Now’s your chance to help!
If you plan to attend, please RSVP with your full name to email@example.com. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
The fact that this has taken so long has not discouraged me. On the contrary, it’s given me a chance to meet more musicians and music lovers. I feel better equipped to do this (and do it right) than ever before, and I feel more certain than ever before that this needs to happen.
Thanks for reading and for your continued support of Lucky Old Souls... Music is magic...
